Fort Wayne, IN : Moped driver seriously injured in crash on Logansport’s west side Wednesday night, April 13, 2016

A man was seriously injured after crashing a moped into a parked car on Logansport’s west side Wednesday night.

First responders were dispatched to the crash in the 500 block of West Broadway shortly before 9 p.m. April 13.

A man was thrown from the moped he was driving west on West Broadway after striking the back of a black Nissan Sentra on the north side of the road, Logansport Police Sgt. Britt Edwards said.

The victim’s identity was not immediately available Wednesday night. The moped is registered to a Kokomo woman, Edwards said.

Edwards went on to say the victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured and was flown in a helicopter to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

Police discovered a 12-pack of beer with two cans missing in the moped’s seat tote. Edwards said alcohol could be a factor in the crash, adding the victim did not smell of alcohol upon his arrival.

The Sentra belongs to Alberto Navarro, who said he was inside his house at the time of the crash.

Yessica Sanchez saw the crash occur from a nearby driveway.

“From nowhere, he hit a car,” she said, adding there were no other vehicles traveling on the road at the time.

Prompt Ambulance Service and the Logansport Fire Department also responded.
