Forest Grove, OR : Driver critically injured in crash after high-speed chase on Wednesday, January 21, 2015
Deputies found a driver lying unconscious in the roadway close to his rolled pickup truck early Thursday morning, a short time after police officials said he evaded an officer in Forest Grove.
A helicopter ambulance flew the man to a local trauma center. Officials said they haven’t been able to identify him.
The incident started around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when dispatcher got a call about the driver speeding up and down D Street, squealing the tires of his white Ford F-250 pickup.
An officer checked the area for the pickup, but didn’t find it until being called out a second time just before midnight.
The officer tried to pull over the pickup after seeing it miss a stop sign. The driver missed another stop sign and lost the pursuing officer, speeding down E Street at more than 70 mph, police officials said.
About a half hour later, emergency crews were called out to Gales Creek Road west of Forest Grove on reports that the pickup was upside down in a creek along the road.
“The driver lying face down in the roadway unconscious,” Captain Mike Herb said.
The first arriving officer and a state trooper helped the man until medical staff arrived on-scene.
