Palo Alto, CA : Second driver dies in wrong-way crash on I-280 on Thursday September 11th 2014
A second person has died as a result of a wrong-way crash on Interstate 280 in Palo Alto, authorities said Friday.
Krisha Caraballos, 20, of San Jose, died Thursday at Stanford Medical Center.
The crash happened at 12:56 a.m. Sept. 11 when a car heading north in the southbound lanes crashed ran head-on into a car at Page Mill Road, said acting Battalion Chief Ken Green of the Palo Alto Fire Department.
Palo Alto and Woodside firefighters had to extricate the drivers of both vehicles, Green said.
Both were taken to Stanford Medical Center, where one of them, 23-year-old Brian DeVoto of Campbell, soon died.
DeVoto was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze and Caraballos was behind the wheel of a 2011 Nissan Sentra, but it was not clear who had been driving the wrong way, said Officer Art Montiel, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
It was also unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which happened several minutes after the CHP fielded calls from motorists about the wrong-way driver, Montiel said.
