Officials have yet to identify a man killed late Thursday in a head-on collision near in Dakota County.
A semi, driven by Daniel Harlan, 43, of Wisconsin, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 20 around 11:18 p.m. when it collided with a car traveling east in the westbound lane.
Both vehicles burst into flames and were destroyed. Harlan escaped the semi before the fire. He was treated at Mercy Medical Center, a news release from the Dakota County Sheriff's office said.
The car was taken to the Dakota County Sheriff's office and had to be dismantled to remove the remains of the driver, the release said.
No positive identification was available for the driver, but officials said they believe the man was from central Iowa. An autopsy will be done and should help identify the victim, according to the release.
Dakota City Fire and Rescue assisted with the accident, which is still under investigation.
