Murfreesboro, TN : Two people killed in separate Rutherford wrecks on Thursday, December 22nd 2016
Two people died in separate fatal car wrecks in Rutherford County Thursday evening, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The first crash happened just before 3 p.m. when a man lost control of his vehicle on Highway 96 near Coleman Hill Road, according to the preliminary report.
Steven Riggan, 58, of Rockvale, drove his vehicle off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. His vehicle caught fire, and a passerby pulled his body from the wreckage, according to THP.
The second crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. when a woman hit a pedestrian on Highway 70 near Mount Herman Road.
According to the preliminary report, Heather Kreitzman, 39, was driving a Toyota Corolla with two children, ages 5 and 7, when James Pitts Jr. walked out onto the roadway where Kreitzman "was unable to avoid" hitting him.
Pitts tested positive for alcohol, according to the report.
Pitts died as the result of the wreck, according to THP. No one inside the vehicle was injured.
Kreitzman was charged with driving without a license and failure to show proof of insurance.
