A West Virginia woman died after a motor-vehicle crash in Frederick County Tuesday morning.
A 2007 Pontiac sedan and a 2010 Chevrolet pickup collided on U.S. 11 (Martinsburg Pike) north of Winchester near the on-ramps to Interstate 81 just before 8:30 a.m., Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler, a spokesman with the Virginia state police, said Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency responders took a passenger in the Pontiac, identified as Shirley Marie Moneymaker, 64, of Yellow Springs, to Winchester Medical Center where she later died at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday, Tyler said.
Nathan D. Behr, 34, of Winchester, was driving the pickup northbound on U.S. 11. The Pontiac, driven southbound by Kimberly M. Moneymaker, 34, of Yellow Springs, turned left at the intersection with the on-ramp. The pickup struck the right side of the Pontiac.
All people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, Tyler said. Neither driver reported injuries. James R. Riley, 43, of Yellow Springs, riding in the front passenger seat, reported injuries and was taken to Winchester Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation by Trooper D.J. Scott. No charges have been filed, Tyler said.
The trooper received assistance by the state police crash reconstruction team and deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. Volunteer fire and rescue crews from stations in Round Hill, Millwood and Greenwood in Frederick County and Friendship in Winchester responded to the crash.
