October, Sunday 1st 2017
Greenfield, Massachusetts
A two-car accident involving a Greenfield Police cruiser Sunday evening sent what is believed to be a total of three people to the hospital, including a police officer.
Shortly after 8 p.m., police responded to a crash between the cruiser and a four-door Subaru sedan. The intersection was strewn with glass and car parts as the Subaru came to rest in the front yard of 146 High St., just south of the intersection. The police cruiser, an SUV, ended up farther south on the same yard. A police officer was treated at the scene for an apparent head wound and was wheeled sitting upright on a stretcher to the Baystate Franklin Medical Center directly adjacent to the crash scene.
The passenger of the Subaru was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Greenfield Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians before being wheeled on a stretcher directly to the hospital. Life Flight was called and could be heard approaching the scene. Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the Subaru was also removed from the vehicle and brought to the hospital.
High Street was closed at the intersection with Sanderson Street.
No further details were available at press time. The crash will be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.
