Anniston, AL : Teen was injured after single-vehicle accident at Coleman Road On Wednesday, August 17th, 2016
A single-vehicle accident on Coleman Road Wednesday evening totaled an Anniston teen’s truck but spared him any injuries.
Garret Dorroh, a senior at Victory Christian School in Pell City, was southbound on Coleman Road around 6 p.m. when he came around a curve in his 2006 Nissan Titan and lost control.
“I was coming around the corner and my back tires slipped,” he said. “I tried to overcorrect and ran into the ditch and then I flipped.”
The truck, his first vehicle, was propped upside down against a tree no bigger than about a foot wide. The roads were still wet from recent rain in the area.
“I’m thankful God had his hand on me,” he said. “If it had been a foot towards the driver’s side door I might not be here.”
The tree, with only minor bark damage, smashed the back seat section of the truck’s cab. Ruts in a small hill on the other side of the ditch marked the path towards the tree that Dorroh’s truck took. The guard rail remained
mangled underneath the front left side of the bumper.
A neighbor heard the accident and rushed out of his house to help, Dorroh said. The accident was feet from the man’s backyard.
“I guess he was the one who called 911,” Dorroh said. “He opened the driver door and asked if I was OK. I told him ‘yeah’ and grabbed my phone and got out.”
Dorroh and some friends, who were not in the vehicle, took pictures as a tow truck driver pulled the truck right-side-up with a chain. The truck came smashing down on all four wheels, rocking on the suspension. The airbag
never deployed on the truck.
