Townsend, DE : Man seriously injured in rollover crash in New Castle County on Wednesday, May 4, 2016
A 60-year-old man was seriously injured in a crash in Townsend Wednesday that required firefighters to use the jaws of life while extracting him from the van, New Castle County Paramedics said.
Emergency responders were called about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to Dexter Corner and Blackbird Station roads for the report of a two-vehicle crash with a rollover, Sgt. Abigail E. Haas said. When paramedics arrived, they found a van that had rolled over with the driver still trapped inside, she said.
Firefighters from the Townsend and Volunteer Hose Fire companies worked for about 15 minutes before they were able to pull the man from the wreckage, Haas said. He was then treated on scene by paramedics for possible head, neck and back injuries before he was transported to Christiana Hospital in serious, but stable condition, she said.
State police were investigating the crash.
