Logansport, IN : Driver hospitalized after crash on Sunday, 6th November 2016
Law enforcement suspects alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle highway crash west of Logansport early Sunday that sent the driver to a Lafayette hospital.
First responders were dispatched to the crash on U.S. 24 west of Logansport at 4:39 a.m. Nov. 6, Cass County Sheriff's Deputy John O'Connor said.
O'Connor said Mark R. Marti, 53, Warsaw, was westbound on the highway in a blue Honda Odyssey van.
"It appears he went off the south side of the roadway at a high rate of speed, traveled through the ditch before striking several trees and flipping the vehicle," O'Connor said.
The van came to rest on its passenger side. O'Connor said Marti was standing at the top of the ditch on the side of the highway upon his arrival. Prompt Ambulance Central transported Marti to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with possibly a neck or back injury, O'Connor said.
"Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash," O'Connor added.
Marti was no longer at IU Health Arnett as of 4 p.m. Sunday, according to information released by the hospital.
Cass County Fire District firefighters used chainsaws to clear brush at the crash scene, allowing K&K Recovery to pull the van out of the ditch and tow it away.
The highway was restricted to one lane and eventually both lanes were closed until the scene was cleared.
