A 24-year-old man was killed Friday night when the 1996 Ford Explorer he was riding in struck a parked asphalt semitrailer.
Police say that the Explorer was traveling southbound on Sylvania-Petersburg Road just north of Ida Center Road when it drove off the road for an unknown reason around 9 p.m. Friday. After leaving the road it went through a yard and hit an asphalt semitrailer parked in a driveway.
The 29-year-old driver was taken to Toledo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 36-year-old passenger in the back seat was taken by Life Flight to St. Vincent's Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
The 24-year-old was riding in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the men appeared to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to Monroe police. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
