Bridgeport, CT : Accidents, rain delay traffic 28 miles on Tuesday, 27th September 2016
Tuesday morning’s AM commute was one of the worst in months.
First we had a moderate rain that dropped up to a half-inch of rain across southwest Connecticuit.
Then, there were two, jackknifed tractor-trailer accidents; one that shut two northbound lanes in Fairfield and the other a southbound crash in Bridgeport that also closed two lanes.
The Fairfield crash near Exit 19 was cleared before the peak of the AM commute. The closed lanes in Bridgeport opened before 7 a.m.
But residual delays lingered throughout the morning with traffic backed up more than 28 miles from Milford to Greenwich.
The Merritt Parkway wasn’t much better. The state Department of Transportation said at 8:30 a.m., southbound parkway traffic was congested 26.5 miles from the Sikorsky Memorial Bridge in Stratford to Stamford.
The accidents caused a ripple effect across the area, jamming feeder highways like Route 8/25 in Bridgeport and the Milford (Danniel Wasson) Connector.
Complicating the clean-up of the truck accident was a fuel spill from the southound I-95 crash.
