ROYAL OAK, MI : Unbelted 10-year-old dies after what appears to be alcohol-involved crash on Saturday, 17th September 2016
A 10-year-old Eastpointe girl died Saturday, one day after, unbelted, she was thrown from a car in a car-pickup truck crash on I-75, Michigan State Police reported.
Alcohol appears to have affected the pickup truck driver, 1st Lt. Michael Shaw wrote in an email.
A 23-year-old Harper Woods woman driving the car also was severely hurt; she was listed in critical condition Sunday, Sept. 18, at an area hospital, according to an accounting of major incidents from Shaw.
The woman and child were traveling south in a 2009 Pontiac G6 Friday night in Royal Oak when a southbound 2010 Dodge Dakota struck the Pontiac. The impact caused the car to go up an embankment and strike a bridge, tossing the girl onto the freeway, according to the state police.
Troopers were called about 11:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, to the area near I-696 for a multiple vehicle crash resulting in injuries.
The pickup truck was turned on its side and resting in the right shoulder.
All five occupants, including the 10-year-old, in both vehicles were taken to the area hospital.
Three were said to be in good and stable condition.
The girl died at 7 a.m. Saturday.
