LOGANTON, PA : Sunbury man killed in freak accident on Route 880 in Greene Township, not far from Nicholas Meats on Wednesday, 19th June 2019

A Sunbury man was killed early Wednesday morning when a deer was hit by a passing truck and thrown through the windshield of the 2006 Dodge Caravan he was riding in.

Cristian De Los Santos, 26, was pronounced at the scene of the 7:04 a.m. accident on Route 880 in Greene Township, not far from Nicholas Meats.

State police at Lamar said De Los Santos was a passenger in a van operated by Cesar D. Acosta, 70, of Milton, who was not injured.

Acosta was travelling west on 880 at the same time a Ford F-550 driven by Steven L. Baslick, 45, of Loganton, was traveling east, police said.

A deer ran onto the roadway and was hit by Baslick’s truck. The deer was then thrown into the path of the van driven by Acosta, crashed through the passenger side front windshield, striking De Los Santos, resulting in fatal injury, police said. De Los Santos, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, police said.
