ROCKFORD, IL : Authorities identify Indiana man killed in Rockford crash on Tuesday, July 25, 2017

An Indiana man walking across East State Street on Tuesday night was struck by a vehicle and later died.

The man was identified by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office this morning as Antonio Franco, 63, of Indianapolis.

Franco was walking north across the street near the intersection with Dawn Avenue after 9 p.m. when a westbound vehicle struck him in the road, police said.

A bystander performed CPR on Franco before an ambulance arrived, according to the Coroner’s Office. He was taken to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m., Coroner Bill Hintz told the Register Star this morning.

No arrests have been made. Further details about the crash have not been released.
