Eau Claire, WI : Two teens hurt after ATV crashes into river on Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Three Buffalo County teens riding an ATV went into the Mississippi River after making a bad turn on Tuesday afternoon.

The ATV’s driver, Julian S. Spriggle, 16, and one of the passengers, Xavier R. Cyert, 15, both of Cochrane, were transported by ambulance for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Buffalo County sheriff’s office news release.The sheriff’s office did not mention any injuries to the other ATV passenger, Nicholas J. Cummings, 15, of Buffalo City.

Deputies were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m. for the ATV crash at the Spring Lake Dike Road in the town of Belvidere.

When emergency workers arrived on the scene, the three juveniles were on the road after getting themselves ashore. The Polaris four-wheel ATV was partially submerged in the river.

Based on the initial investigation, the teens were returning from fishing near the Whittman Dam and misjudged a turn in the road. The ATV went airborne and into the river, ejecting the three teens who also went into the water, according to the news release.
