Tillamook, OR: one driver Dead in fatal Crash while driving on suspended license on Highway 101 on Friday evening,24th October 2014
Oregon State Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that closed Highway 101 north of Cloverdale this afternoon for four hours.
According to troopers, the crash happened around milepost 84 when a pickup driving northbound on the highway at a high speed, crossed the center line, crashing head-on into a car heading south.
The pickup came to a rest on its side near the center of the highway. The car came to a rest on the southbound shoulder.
The driver of the car, 70-year-old Gerald Will of Cloverdale, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup driver, Christopher Allen Fitch, 21, of Beaverton, was driving on a suspended license and received only minor injury. During the investigation, troopers learned that Fitch was on probation for DUII out of Clackamas County. Troopers believe alcohol also played a role in Thursday's crash.
Fitch was arrested and taken to Tillamook County Jail on charges of manslaughter, DUII and reckless driving.
OSP were assisted at the scene by the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Nestucca Rural Fire & Rescue, Tillamook Regional Medical Center Ambulance, Tillamook County Medical Examiner, Tillamook County District Attorney's Office and ODOT.
