SYRACUSE, NY : Driver charged in hit-and-run crash that sparked house fire on Wednesday, 30th January 2019
The driver in a Thanksgiving hit-and-run crash that sparked a house fire has been located and charged, according to the Syracuse Police Department.
Xavier Jackson, 24, of Syracuse, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to use an interlock device and several vehicle and traffic infractions, according to Lt. David Brown, a spokesman for the city police department.
Syracuse police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole at the intersection of Liberty Street and West Belden Avenue at about 1:43 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2018. The residence at 417 Liberty St. and the involved vehicle were destroyed in a fire resulting from contact with the broken utility pole, Brown said.
A resident of that address suffered minor injury escaping the home. The driver of the involved vehicle reportedly exited said vehicle and walked away southbound on Liberty Street, Brown said.
