Boulder, UT : NSL child killed in accident on Monday September 26 2016
A 5-year-old boy was hit Monday afternoon at about 850 North and Highway 89 in North Salt Lake while trying to cross from the west side to the east side of the road. He was not in a crosswalk. The child was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital where he later died.
The boy has been identified as Raymond Zalas. “He lived in the apartments on the east side,” said North Salt Lake Police Chief Craig Black. “We’re not sure how he got to the west side but he was trying to cross back over to the apartments and was struck in the northbound lane by a Dodge Charger.”
Black said there is no indication of negligence, speed, impairment or distraction by the driver but the investigation is ongoing.
“There is nothing apparent at this time but it is too early to say,” he said. “The parents of the child were on the scene very quickly. There is no sign of negligence. We’re not looking for blame here we’re just looking for answers. A 5-year-old can move quickly.”
