A Joelton man was killed in a collision on Whites Creek Pike on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said John H. Armstrong III was driving his 1998 Ford Bronco south when a pickup truck pulling a trailer in the opposite lanes came into his lane and hit him.

The driver of the pickup truck, 53-year-old Gary K. Mullins, said he drove into the southbound lanes to avoid a car that was turning in front of him.

Armstrong, 62, died at the scene near Coopertown Road.

Police said the crash was caused by Mullins failing to maintain his lane of travel.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
