Aurora, CO : Man critically injured in two-vehicle crash on southbound lanes of I-225, close to E. Iliff Avenue. on Wednesday, Aug 12, 2015

A man who police say caused an Aurora wreck involving undercover officers is listed in critical condition.

The two-vehicle crash happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of I-225, close to E. Iliff Avenue.

Aurora Police say the officers were traveling behind slow-moving traffic when the driver of a minivan collided with their unmarked car. Police say the 78-year-old man was driving at a high rate of speed; he lost control after the crash and hit a retaining wall.

Firefighters performed CPR on the man until he was taken to Aurora South Medical Center. Doctors aren’t sure if he suffered a medical episode before the crash or after.

The officers also went to the hospital for minor injuries.

Names haven’t been released.
