SPRING HILL, TN : Passengers walk away from crash in Spring Hill on Monday, December, 18th 2017
Passengers walked away from a harrowing scene Monday afternoon in what could be considered a Christmastime miracle.
A Kenworth tow truck, carrying a Dodge pickup truck, was traveling southbound on US 31 near Rippavilla Plantation when it crossed the median, overturned and collided with an SUV in the northbound lane.
The pickup landing atop the SUV, Spring Hill Fire Chief Terry Hood said.
With only minor injuries sustained, authorities were thankful to report that those involved only suffered minor injures.
“It is a miracle they were able to walk away,” Hood said. “The tow truck landed right on top of them.”
Hood said both passengers inside the SUV escaped from the crushed vehicle on their own.
The driver of the tow truck and the two passengers inside the SUV were transported by ambulance to Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia with non-life-threatening injuries.
With two of the involved vehicles heavily leaking fuel, both northbound lanes of US 31 were closed, and traffic was redirected onto Denning Lane just south of the plantation property.
“There was a lot of fuel on the road,” Hood said.
The lanes were reopened shortly before 3 p.m., when the vehicles and debris were cleared from the roadway, Hood said.
The Spring Hill Fire Department and the Spring Hill Police Department responded to the incident.
The Public Works Department of Spring Hill was also dispatched to the scene to assist in the cleanup effort.
“It was a long afternoon for traffic but everyone walked away,” Hood said.
