Pedestrian hit and killed in Georgetown County in Salt Lake City Utah
A woman was killed after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in South Salt Lake Saturday.
Gary Keller, South Salt Lake Police, said the victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was crossing State Street near 3600 South just before 7:30 p.m. when she was hit by a gold Toyota Prius traveling northbound. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Maria Deaquino, who leaves behind a husband and two children. The driver of the Prius has not been cited at this time. Keller said the driver has been helpful during the investigation, and it doesn’t appear intoxication was a factor.“From what I understand, [she's been] very cooperative,” he said. “Again, there was no indication of alcohol or drugs on either the victim or the driver. I don’t know if she just didn’t see her, or what the details are.”Deaquino was not in a crosswalk when she was hit. Police said she was likely trying to cross the street to reach a bus stop and that there were no crosswalks in the immediate vicinity.
