CALERA, AL : Calera football player killed in early morning crash on Sunday, 3rd September 2023

15-year-old Brayden Ray, a student at Calera High School, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-car crash, according to the Shelby County Coroner's Office.

Ray was pronounced dead at the scene after his car left the road and hit some trees. The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Highway 70 near the Waterford subdivision. Officials said Ray was alone in the car.

"Our city is heartbroken over the tragic death of one of our teenagers, Brayden Ray. Please continue to pray for his family during the difficult days ahead," said Mayor Jon Graham.

According to the school's football roster, Ray was No. 29 on the team. He's listed as a sophomore wide receiver.
