Ocean City police arrested a Cockeysville man in connection with a fatal crash on Friday morning on Coastal Highway.

Todd Pivec, 41, is charged with manslaughter and homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest along with 20 traffic offenses. He's being held without bond.Investigators said Ocean City police responded to a drunken driving call around 1:15 a.m. Friday. Police said Pivec was behind the wheel of a white Lexus LX57 near 46th Street on Coastal Highway. Initial attempts to stop him failed.

According to police, Pivec struck another car, which burst into flames. Authorities pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The victim's name has not been released. Police caught up with Pivec after he crashed into a telephone pole. Police said Pivec then attempted to flee on foot but was immediately arrested.

Court records indicate that since 2009 Pivec has faced DUI charges on at least four different occasions.

In June 2009, he was found guilty of DUI. In January 2017, he was charged with DUI, but the state's attorney's office didn't prosecute. In September 2017, police charged Pivec with DUI. He sought a jury trial. The outcome of that case is not known.

The Pivec family has strong ties to Cockeysville. They own Pivec Mechanical and several businesses along the York Road corridor.

The January 2017 DUI occurred in Anne Arundel County. Pivec slammed into a median flattening two tires. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol, he refused a field sobriety test and breathalyzer. He was found guilty of negligent driving and ordered to spend two weekends in an addiction program.
