Las Vegas, NV : Woman killed in single-vehicle car wreck on Russell Road in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, Aug 5, 2015

The woman who was killed in what police described as a high-speed crash in western Las Vegas on Wednesday morning has been identified.

Las Vegas Metro police reported the crash at 2:43 a.m. on West Russell just west of Grand Canyon Drive.

According to Metro, a 46-year-old woman, identified by the coroner's office as Angela Bair, of Las Vegas, was behind the wheel of a 2006 Ford Mustang that was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed.

Bair drove through the stop sign at the intersection with Grand Canyon and lost control at the point where the roadway elevates, police said. The vehicle went airborne, hitting two lamp posts, a control box, a block wall and a power pole on the north side of the roadway before coming to rest.

Bair, who was the only person inside the vehicle, died at the scene.

Police said a resident sustained minor injuries due to flying fragments from the wall created during the crash.

Russell between Grand Canyon and Hualapai Way was closed to traffic for several hours during an investigation.

Police said it was too early to say whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The incident marked the 60th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
