Arcadia, FL : Port Charlotte man killed and passenger seriously injured in a crash in DeSoto County on Tuesday morning, Nov 10, 2015
A Port Charlotte resident was killed and his passenger was seriously injured in a crash early today in DeSoto County, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to an FHP release, Leonard A. Standley, 39, was driving a Lincoln Town Car south on County Road 769 at about 2:30 a.m. While approaching Fort Winder Street, Standley entered a curve but continued straight, leaving the road and striking a wooden power pole, FHP says. The car then hit a wooden fence before coming to rest.
Standley was taken to Fawcett Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt, FHP reports. His passenger, Shelby M. Standley, 17, also of Port Charlotte, was taken to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte with critical injuries; she was not wearing a seat belt, FHP says.
