A late-night crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer killed two Eustace area women on Sunday, Mabank Police Chief Keith Bradshaw said.
Iris Anderson, 17, and Morgan Carroll, 20, were passengers in a 2002 Toyota Highlander that was hit while crossing U.S. 175 near the Mabank-Gun Barrel City line. Two other occupants were taken to area hospitals.
Bradshaw said the Highlander, driven by Austin Junell, 21, of Athens, was headed north on CR 2938 when it reached the intersection with U.S. 175.
"They attempted to cross westbound 175 and were struck broadside by the 18-wheeler," Bradshaw said.
Carroll was taken by ambulance to ETMC in Gun Barrel City and flown to ETMC Tyler, where she died on Monday afternoon.
Junell was taken by ambulance to ETMC in Gun Barrel City and taken to Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He was treated and released. Kyle Poole, 18, of Malakoff, was also taken to ETMC in Gun Barrel City. He was later released with minor injuries.
