Derby, CT : 85-year-old woman killed she hit a semitruck at the intersection of Prairie Avenue on Saturday ,April 11th 2015

An 85-year-old woman died Saturday when she hit a semitruck at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Pleasant View Road near Hauser.

The accident was reported at 3 p.m. The woman was driving a 1995 Aerostar van west on Prairie Avenue and apparently failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. She hit a northbound semi driven by Rupinder Shokar, 43, of British Columbia.

The woman’s car hit the side of the semi’s trailer and she died at the scene, a news release said.

The woman’s name will not be released by the Sheriff’s Office until her family has been notified of her death
