Lakeview, NY : Driver and a patient killed after an ambulance crashed into an overpass on a New York parkway on Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Police say an ambulance has crashed into an overpass on a New York parkway, killing the driver and a patient.

It happened around noon Wednesday along the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview, on Long Island.

An emergency medical technician who was also in the ambulance was hospitalized with a broken leg and a concussion.

Photos of the crash posted on social media sites showed the ambulance on a grassy embankment and the front of the vehicle mangled and crushed.

Police say the ambulance was not driving with lights and sirens at the time. They do not suspect any criminality.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash.
