Louisville, KY : One dead following car crash on Louisville and Fairfield Roads Wednesday morning, April 6, 2016

Nelson County Sheriff’s deputies, Nelson County Fire and Rescue and Nelson County EMS responded to US 31E (Louisville Road) and Ky. 509 (Fairfield Road) just before 10:30 a.m. on a report of a serious accident.

A 1998 Dodge Durango driven by William E. Goodwin, 65, of Cox’s Creek, was attempting to turn left from Fairfield Road onto Louisville Road when it entered the path of a 2007 Chevrolet work truck driven by Steven Vicario, 26, of New Haven.

Goodwin was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died. His passenger, Marsha Goodwin, 59, was flown to Louisville from the scene and was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Vicario and his 39-year-old passenger Brian Sandusky, of Bardstown, were taken to Flaget for non-life threatening injuries.

Nelson County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Adams investigated the crash, and New Haven Police Chief K.C. Holbert conducted reconstruction.

The crash is the second traffic fatality in Bardstown in less than a week.

On Saturday, a 65-year-old Louisville woman was killed in a rear-end collision at the intersection of Ky. 245 and Templin Avenue, which has a traffic light.

The intersection where Wednesday’s crash occurred does not have a traffic light, but does have a stop sign on Ky. 509 warning motorists that cross traffic on U.S. 31E does not stop.
