Wilmington, DE : Pedestrian hit Sunday was drunk on highway, police say on Sunday, March 12th 2017
A Pennsylvania man was cited for being drunk on a highway after he was hit by a Jeep Sunday near New Castle, according to state police.
Troopers determined that 59-year-old Robert Reiber, of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, was walking eastbound about 12:20 p.m. Sunday and attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. 13 just south of Boulden Boulevard, said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, a spokesman with Delaware State Police.
As Reiber stepped into the center lane of U.S. 13, he also put himself in the direct path of a 2015 Dodge Ram that was able to stop before hitting him, Hale said. However, a 2001 Jeep Cherokee in the next lane over was unable to avoid Reiber as he continued walking across the highway, he said.
The Jeep swerved into the center lane to miss Reiber, but hit the right side of a Dodge Ram and was bounced back into the right lane, hitting the pedestrian, Hale said.
