A 50-year-old Elizabethville resident was killed Thursday when his sedan entered the oncoming lane of traffic on Route 225 and was struck head-on by a box truck.
Christopher A. Franki, driver of a 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Lower Mahanoy Township, according to state troopers from Stonington.
The passenger of the 2014 Mitsubishi Fuso FE160 box truck, Colby L. Ernest, 25, of Sunbury, was treated at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and released, according to a nursing supervisor on Friday morning.
The driver of the box truck was Richard L. Berry, 60, of Northumberland. The nursing supervisor said his name was not listed as a patient at Geisinger. A nursing supervisor at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey said Friday morning that Berry was not listed as a patient there.
According to state police, Franki was driving south on Route 225 when his vehicle entered the southbound lane near a curve. Berry attempted to avoid a collision by steering right.
The vehicles collided head-on just south of Raupstal Road at about 3:10 p.m.
Troopers say the crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Americus EMS, Lower Mahanoy Fire, Pillow Fire, Shamokin Fire, Pinnacle Health, Geisinger Life Flight, Sunbury Motor Towing and Troy’s Towing.
