Ottawa County, MI : woman, 19, killed in crash at 32nd Avenue north of Adams Street on Sunday, May 22, 2016

Hope Elizabeth Klinkers has been identified by police as the 19-year-old woman killed in a 5 a.m. Sunday crash at 32nd Avenue north of Adams Street.

Klinkers and a 20-year-old Hopkins man, who was driving a 2001 Ford Escape, went into a ditch and slammed into a driveway abutment, Ottawa County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Austin said.

The driver's name is being withheld pending further investigation, but authorities said he told officers that he fell asleep at the wheel. He suffered minor injuries and Klinkers was pronounced dead at the crash scene, police said.

Neither Klinkers nor the driver wore seat belts, Austin said.
