North Adams, MA : One person died in serious two-vehicle crash on Friday October 23 2015

One person has died as the result of a serious two-vehicle accident in North Adams on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
In an update to a Facebook post from earlier in the day, the North Adams Police Department reported late Friday there was a fatality in the crash that closed the Massachusetts Avenue and River Street area to motorists.
Our condolences to the family involved," police said in the updated post.
The identity of the victim was not released.
A number of patients were transported" to Berkshire Medical Center's North Adams campus after the crash, which occurred about 3:25 p.m., according to North Adams Police Sgt. James Burdick when reached about 7 p.m.
The state police accident reconstruction team is still on the scene; the fire department is still on the scene," Burdick said at the time.
The earlier Facebook post noted "the serious nature" of the wreck and said it resulted in the closure of Massachusetts Avenue east of Roberts Drive and River Street west of Brown Street. Burdick said these routes would remain closed for at least another hour at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Passing motorists noted prolonged traffic congestion in the Brown Street area. The later post said the road has been reopened.
