Conroe, TX : One dead, two seriously injured in double motorcycle crash in Northwest Montgomery County on Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2017
A double-motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in Northwest Montgomery County near Richards killed a 56-year-old man and sent two more people to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Around 12:30 p.m., a group of motorcycles was traveling north on FM 149 when one of the motorcycles carrying two people made a left turn into a private driveway, according to DPS Sgt. Erik Burse.
"That caused the other motorcycles naturally to slow down," Burse said. "The fourth motorcycle in the group went into the southbound lanes to avoid hitting the motorcycle in front of him."
But when the man turned to avoid the motorcyclist in front of him, Burse said, he hit the motorcycle turning left.
Burse said the motorcyclist turning into the private drive was transported to the Conroe emergency room with serious injuries that may result in some type of amputation, but the individual will survive. The cyclist who went into the southbound lane died, he said.
Montgomery County and Grimes County emergency personnel responded to the scene near Drifters Ice House at 29293 FM 149, according to an MCHD dispatch report. First responders attempted to revive the man with CPR on scene, but his injuries were too severe, according to the dispatch report.
An investigation is ongoing, but the crash is considered an accident at this time, according to DPS.
No further information was available and no names were released.
