Spartanburg , SC : 18-year-old Noah Lathern Lambert injured and another passenger killed after fata Crash along Riverbend Road on Sunday morning ,April 12th 2015

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Sunday morning.

Troopers said they were called to Trammel Road at Riverbend Road about 3:15 a.m. in regards to a deadly collision.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne said 18-year-old Noah Lathern Lambert was traveling south in a 2006 BMW on Trammel Road when the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Lambert was injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional via EMS. Rhyne said it is unknown if he was seat belted.

Two other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. An 18-year-old male was injured and entrapped in the vehicle. He was transported to Spartanburg Regional via EMS.

A third male in the car was not seat belted and was entrapped. Rhyne said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner's Investigator Megan Rick identified the victim as 17-year-old Brandon Wade Stites of Woodruff. Rick said toxicology results are pending and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Rhyne said Lambert has been charged with felony DUI resulting in death and felony DUI with great bodily injury. According to online jail records, he was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

Stites was a senior at Woodruff High School and played football, according to Dr. Rallie Liston, Superintendent for Spartanburg District 4.

"We're a very small community and it has a tremendous effect when something like this happens," said Liston, "the circumstances are so tragic in every aspect. My heartfelt condolences go out to all families involved."

Dr. Liston said two other Woodruff High School students were in the car during the crash. Grief counselors will be available for students.

Lambert appeared before a bond judge at 2 p.m. Sunday, but the judge said Lambert will need to appear before a circuit judge.
