Culpeper, VA : Tractor-trailer crash on I-81 kills New York trucker on Wednesday, September 27th 2017

The Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash between two tractor-trailers that happened Wednesday night on I-81 in Rockingham County.

Authorities responded to the scene around 10:25 p.m. near mile marker 252 on the interstate where the northbound left lane was already closed due to a previous crash. Traffic was moving slowly in the right lane when a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer approached the slow moving traffic at or near the speed limit, striking another tractor-trailer in the rear.

The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer, Mariusz S. Jurkowski, 49, of Forest Hills, New York was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the crash. No charges are expected. The crash remains under investigation, according to state police.
