Chicago, IL : 23-year-old Sonia Vargas died and one injured after Car collides with semi-truck on Lower West side on Sunday, March 29, 2015

Authorities say a Chicago woman was killed and another was critically injured in a crash involving a semitrailer on city's Lower West Side.

A Chicago Police Department spokeswoman says the crash happened about 5:20 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle the women were riding in crashed into the semitrailer as it was exiting the Stevenson Expressway. She says both the driver and passenger in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says the passenger, 23-year-old Sonia Vargas of the Brighton Park neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 6:08 a.m. at the hospital.

The driver remained in critical condition at the hospital as of Sunday night. Her identity has not been released.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
