Police say a driver was killed and two of his three passengers were seriously injured when the car crashed into a tree on Long Island.

Nassau County police identified the driver as Carlos Salazar of Far Rockaway. They say he was driving in Hewlett when police say the car left the roadway and struck a tree around 10 p.m. Sunday.

The 20-year-old Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers were taken to a hospital where they were listed in serious condition.

A third passenger suffered minor injuries.

The car was impounded and the investigation into the crash is continuing.
