Manhattan, KS : JC man injured in Riley County crash Wednesday, October 12, 2016
A Junction City man was injured in a Wednesday crash that closed a portion of U.S. Highway 77 in northern Riley County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. Dale Taylor, 57, was driving south near Mile Marker 185 in a 2007 International semi carrying propane when he crossed the center line and hit a 2001 Peterbuilt semi driven by Daryl Langvardt, 57, Clay Center, the report said.
Taylor’s rig left the road and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment in the east ditch. Langvardt pulled over to the shoulder after the crash. Taylor was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan to receive treatment. Langvardt didn’t complain of any injuries. Kansas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls said officials closed U.S. 77 from Madison Road to Barton Road at 2:30 p.m. It reopened later in the day. Officials closed the road for about two hours Thursday morning to allow a wrecker to retrieve the International semi. Both Taylor and Langvardt were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
