San Marcos,CA : Driver dies after crashing into truck stopped on SR-78 on December, Monday 18th 2017

A driver of a pickup truck was killed in a crash with a parked truck on state Route 78 in San Marcos Monday evening, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.

The crash between a Toyota pickup truck and a work truck that was stopped on the shoulder happened around 7:35 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway near Nordahl Road, a CHP officer said.

North County Fire spokesman John Buchananan said there was one death in the crash. The condition of a passenger who was in the vehicle was not immediately available, according to CHP spokeswoman Mary Bailey.

Investigators had not determined why the truck was on the shoulder of the highway. No one was inside it during the crash, Bailey said.

Two of three lanes of the highway were closed following the crash, as was the Nordahl Road on-ramp, Bailey said.
