Pinellas County, FL : Treasure Island officer injured in a rollover crash on Gulf Boulevard on Monday night, May 4, 2015

A three-vehicle crash Monday night on Treasure Island left three people with non-life-threatening injuries, including a police officer who needed to be extracated from his vehicle by rescue workers.

The crash occurred about 8:08 p.m. on Gulf Boulevard at West Gulf Boulevard, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officer Daniel Savarese was traveling south on Gulf in his marked 2013 Ford Explorer and began to decrease speed to make a right turn on West Gulf, deputies said. Before he could turn, a Ford F-150 sideswiped a Dodge Charger and hit the rear of the officer’s vehicle, deputies said.

The impact caused the Explorer to overturn, coming to a rest on the driver’s side and trapping Savarese, a nine-year veteran of Treasure Island police. He was extricated by fire rescue workers and taken to a hospital.

The driver of the Ford F-150, 46-year-old Juan DeLeon, and his passenger, 59-year-old Margaret Garcia, both of Gulfport, were also transported to a hospital.

The driver of the Dodge, 30-year-old Jeremy Diez, of Seminole, reported no injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.

The investigation is ongoing.
