Springfield, IL : Van driver dies in I-55 accident at Sherman on Monday morning, August 8, 2016

A 51-year-old Rochelle man is dead after the van he was driving ran off Interstate 55 near Sherman Monday morning.

The driver of the van, who was not identified by Illinois State Police, was northbound on I-55 at milepost 105 at 7:23 a.m. when for an unknown reason he crossed the center median and the southbound lanes of the interstate.

The 2013 black Chrysler van went into the ditch on the west side of the highway, through the fence onto the frontage road before overturning several times and coming to rest in a field.

The driver was transported to Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
