Old Fort, NC :Truck crash, second wreck disrupt traffic on Thursday, July 9th 2015
A tractor trailer hauling machinery overturned in a sand pile Thursday morning on Old Fort Mountain, subsequently causing another wreck.Trooper M.S. Gilliland of the N.C. Highway Patrol said James Allan Hicks, of Owosso, MI, was heading east on Old Fort Mountain in a tractor trailer when he lost his brakes and headed into the second sand pile. The large truck then overturned on its side and lost the forklift that was attached to bed of the truck.Hicks was not injured.When emergency crews were responding to the tractor trailer call, a rear-end collision occurred on the westbound side of the mountain.First Sgt. Mark Cline of the N.C. Highway Patrol said as an Old Fort fire truck was utilizing the emergency turnaround, one car didn’t get stopped and rear-ended another. The fire truck was not damaged.The drivers in both vehicles of the rear end collision suffered minor injuries.McDowell EMS, Old Fort Police, Old Fort Fire Department, N.C. Highway Patrol and Emergency Management responded to the scene.
