Pickups crash head-on; 2 dead,2critically injured in Titusville Florida
A three-vehicle crash on County Road 42 Tuesday night killed two people and critically injured two others, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers. Two others escaped uninjured, FHP said.Marion County sheriff's deputies directed traffic on the two-lane roadway, which was reduced to a single lane as troopers worked the scene of the accident and waited for Medical Examiner's Office officials to arrive.FHP officials said two pickup trucks were heading west in the 5600 block of CR 42, while a third pickup truck was heading eastbound on CR 42 in the westbound lane.The third pickup truck sideswiped one of the pickups, then slammed head-on into the other pickup, sending both vehicles off the roadway, FHP said.The male driver of the pickup truck that sideswiped one of the pickups and eventually struck the second pickup was pronounced dead on scene by Marion County Fire Rescue officials.The three male occupants of the truck that was struck head-on were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center. One of the two passengers in that pickup did not survive; the driver and the other passenger are in critical condition, troopers said.Troopers said the two men in the pickup truck that was sideswiped were not injured and did not need any treatment.Authorities did not know why the driver of the one pickup sideswiped one truck and struck the other head-on.
