Omaha, NE : A two-vehicle crash in northwest Omaha on Thursday, January, 25th 2018
A motorist who authorities allege was drunk ran from the scene of a two-vehicle crash in northwest Omaha in which a woman was critically injured. The man later reportedly arrived at a bar and announced he was eluding police.
The crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. Police said the man’s pickup truck rear-ended a 2010 Mazda 6 that had turned wide from eastbound Eagle Run Drive onto southbound 144th Street. Both vehicles crossed the raised median and two lanes.
Alexander Williams, 27, who police say was driving the southbound 2017 Dodge Ram pickup, showed up at Billy O's Lounge near 144th Street and Ellison Avenue about an hour later. The bar is about a mile and a half away from where the crash occurred.
Police said Williams told people there that he had been involved in a traffic accident. One person called 911.
The driver of the Mazda, Kirstin Berray, 29, of Omaha, suffered a critical head injury, police said. She was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy, where she was listed in serious condition Friday.
After Williams ran, police searched for him using a helicopter and with dogs. An officer later arrived at the bar and arrested him as he tried to flee.
Williams, who lives in Omaha, was booked on suspicion of leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving under the influence in a crash with a serious bodily injury and other crimes.
A passenger in the Mazda, Lindsay Ray, 29, of Omaha, was not injured, police said.
