POLK COUNTY, NC : A collision involving two tanker trucks on Friday, December, 15th 2017

Interstate 26 is closed in both directions following a collision involving two tanker trucks, according to dispatch.

They said the accident happened just after 10 p.m. Friday near mile maker 62. This is near Holbert Cove Road.

Dispatch said an explosion occurred after the accident.

They said the fire is under control.

The NC Department of Transportation said on its alert page the road will remain closed for sometime.

NC DOT is telling motorists to take exit 54 for US 25 S, follow US 25 S into South Carolina and continue to I-85 N. Then, motorists should follow I-85 N to reaccess I-26 near exit 18.
