Potosi, MO : 82-year-old Paul J. Sampso dead after car crashed into a piece of construction equipment in eastern Missouri on Friday night, April 17, 2015

One man was killed and another seriously injured in a collision between a car and a piece of construction equipment on Highway 21 at Sampson Road on Friday evening.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Paul J. Sampson, 82, of Blackwell, Mo., died in the accident. Rick S. Valle, 68, of Cadet, Mo., was transported by Arch Air Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, where he was listed in serious condition Saturday.

Sampson was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus south on Highway 21 shortly before 8 p.m. when his car struck the side of an eastbound 1996 Takeuchi Skidsteer driven by Valle, according to the highway patrol. The equipment has a front-end loader and is used in construction for work such as moving dirt.
