FRANKLIN COUNTY, NC : A 22-month-old died following a crash in Franklin County on Friday, August 4, 2017
A 22-month-old died Saturday following a Friday afternoon crash in Franklin County.
Authorities said vehicles driven by Samar Ferd Jurdi, 20, and Chastity Stamper, 37, were traveling alongside each other in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 401 when Stamper, who was in lane designated for right turns only, traveled straight instead and struck Jurdi’s vehicle as she attempted to get in front of it.
The crash caused Jurdi’s vehicle to cross into the northbound lanes and strike a vehicle driven by Anna Collier, 40.
Authorities said one adult and four children, including the 22-month-old, were inside Jurdi’s vehicle at the time of the crash.
All of the children were taken to WakeMed, where the 22-month-old died Saturday morning. The other three children remained in serious condition Saturday night, according to authorities.
Authorities said Collier was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, including shattered hips and broken bones.
Jurdiwas charged with DWI, after she admitted to smoking marijuana, and driving without a license.
Authorities said they are investigating the crash as a case of road rage and more charges are expected against both Jurdi and Stamper.
